shakti mhi
After
nearly 30 years of personal practice and teaching thousands of students around
the globe, shakti mhi has made Yoga her passion and her life's purpose. Since
the age of 14 when she first discovered Yoga she has traveled the world in
search of Yoga and Zen teachers who would expand her knowledge of all aspects of
Yoga. From living in a Yoga ashram in India, to spending a year in contemplation
in a middle-eastern desert, as well as taking advanced training at Yoga centres
from a number of Hatha-based traditions, her knowledge base is extraordinary.
Her dedication to the ancient ways of yoga also led her to study with a variety
of accomplished Zen teachers, deepening her understanding of the original intent
of Yoga.
Since
1982, shakti has also trained hundreds of Yoga teachers, who are sought after by
yoga studios and practitioners around the world. Many of them have gone on to
open their own schools internationally. Much of the appeal of her teaching comes
from the unique style she has developed over the years. It is simply known as
Prana style, after the name of the studio which she founded. With a strong focus
on safety, proper alignment, breath control and the intuitive flow of the asanas,
shakti teaches the students how to create and retain prana (Sanskrit, for
life-force) while stilling the mind into a meditative enjoyment of the present
moment.
The Approach of Prana Yoga's Teacher Training
If the aim of yoga is anything other then Realization, i.e. perceiving reality
through the higher self and not through the lower self (ego), then the true
spirit of yoga is lost.
The
majority of people in the West are unaware of the real aim of Hatha yoga (the
physical aspect of yoga). Practicing the asanas (the postures) for the purpose
of having strong, flexible and healthy body is like being enthralled with the
side effects of a medicine without being aware of the real healing which occurs
as its primary aim. The asanas create a bridge connecting the small self
(ego/mind) with the higher self (the internal knower or internal watcher).
Teacher training with shakti mhi is designed for those willing to commit to the
path of inner growth or self realization. Although the training deals directly
with learning the asanas in great detail, other aspects include the physical,
mental and energetic. The fundamental spirit of the training is about mastering
the mind, letting go of the ego and freeing oneself of all concepts. If your
goal for taking the yoga teacher training is for gaining a new profession for
the purpose of making a living only, shakti mhi's program may not be suitable
for you. If you are willing to start, or continue, on a spiritual journey that
may lead you to a better place by mastering YOUR mind (as opposed to changing
the world or the minds of others); you will find the Yoga teacher training with
shakti mhi a unique environment to become a true yoga teacher as opposed to a
mere yoga instructor. Come and experience the heart and spirit of classical
Hatha Yoga.
