Maya Cosmic Institute
The Maya Cosmic Institute is in Mérida, Mexico. Courses offered teach the Maya Cosmovision, the Maya connection
with Atlantis, the Mayan Calendars and Prophecies, the Sacred Ceremonies
and Rituals of the ancient Maya, the Maya Goddesses and the rise of the Sacred
Feminine, and more. These teachings all come directly from the Mayan sources and
will help you to deepen your awareness and awaken your consciousness.
The Maya
The Maya Civilization is considered to be one of the best known great
civilizations, rich in history, culture and expansion. The Maya were a highly
advanced people who were experts in astronomy and mathematics, and who developed
extremely accurate calendrical systems and detailed hieroglyphic writing. They
formed well established societies with a solid religious and political structure
and were also highly skilled farmers and masters in agriculture. The Maya
constructed outstanding and elaborate architectural structures which included
temples, pyramids, palaces and observatories, all built unfathomably without
metal tools. They also created beautifully ornate jewellery, textiles, pottery
and fascinating works of art, many of which are now housed in museums across the
world, leaving us with tangible testimony of their enigmatic history.
Family life and spirituality were the core of Maya society. Their daily life,
activities, rituals and ceremonies were inextricably linked to all things
sacred. Their cardinal point directions, colours, plants, and numbers were rich
with meaning and significance and closely related to their deities. The Maya had
a deep respect for the natural world around them and developed an abundance of
knowledge in plant and natural medicine. They acknowledged that spirit was in
everything and revered the energies and guardians in their surrounding
environment and worked with these spiritual elements throughout their daily life
and in sacred rites.
Opposed to popular belief, the Maya never disappeared. During the time of the
conquistadores and European settlers, some Maya elders learned to merge their
past traditions and knowledge, holding the essence of the ancient Maya teachings
to be passed on to us today. Many of their written records were burned and
destroyed, however, fortunately much of their knowledge continued to be passed
down orally through the generations and is available to us today, if we know
where to look.
It is with great pleasure that we invite you to attend the Maya Cosmic

Calleros
Miguel Angel Vergara Calleros is a Mayan
Cultural Teacher and leading authority on
Chichen Itza and the pyramid of
K'u-Kuul-Kaan. He is the author of several
books on the Maya including two on Chichen
Itza. He was Coordinator of Cultural
Services for the Yucatán State Government
and the Director of Chichen Itza for four
years.
Miguel Angel studied for 17 years with Mayan
elder, Don Vincente Martin, who was a wisdom
keeper, professional teacher and artist. He
then became a master in his own right, known
as Master Nazul, and now teaches seminars in
Mexico and abroad on Mayan astronomy,
philosophy, calendar, glyphs and symbols,
medicine, cosmovision, traditions and
prayers, ceremonies and healing. Miguel
Angel teaches us how to connect with the
masters of light who are available to teach
and guide us now, as in ancient times. He
conducts tours to the Mayan sacred sites so
that we can experience first-hand the
powerful activating energies of those areas.
His knowledge and experience make the
journeys come alive as we begin to
understand how the messages were imprinted,
what the glyphs mean, how the buildings were
used, and how the ceremonies were conducted.

style that connects rapidly and profoundly
with his audience. Those who experience him

Erik Solis Puga
Erik Solis Puga was born in Yucatán and is
proud of his Maya roots which come through
his maternal grandmother’s family, Balam, in
the town of Aké. Erik was born in Progreso
and grew up learning much from nature as
well as from his family. He went to
Institute in Mérida where he received his
degree in Tourism and continued his
education by working with many Maya
teachers, elders, healers, and Maya Xmen and
Hmen (Shamans).
Erik generously shares all he learns and
strongly believes in teaching by example. He
is a Mayan Walker, traveling on his path,
sharing his personal experiences and vast
knowledge, while continuing to learn and
grow as he helps guide people to find their
individual paths to freedom, peace and
happiness. He has traveled to Europe and the
United States by invitation to teach at
various Maya seminars and workshops. Erik’s
generous, caring and gentle way of teaching
allows him to connect easily with people

Maya Cosmovisión I
This course is the study and understanding of the ancient Maya’s cosmic vision
of the universe. During the week you will go deeply into the study of OX-LAHUN-TIKU
(the 13 heavens) and the symbolism of BOLONTIKU (the 9 dimensions of the earth)
known as XIBALBA.
You will learn about the five directions of the Maya cosmos, their lords (BAKABES),
their colors, their offerings, their orientation, and the sacred elements of
each one of these directions.
You will be taught and get an opportunity to practice the 13 Maya Cosmic
Salutations to the Universe and the way to call the Heart of the Sky and the
Heart of the Earth, to unite the great heart of the Sun in the sky with Mother
Nature.
Atlantis – Maya Connection
The ancient cosmic cities of Atlantis are still to be found in the land of the
Mayab. The knowledge of Atlantis is found in the Maya temples and pyramids and
in the sacred Maya books (codices) where the hieroglyphs tell us of Atlantis,
“The City of the Transparent Crystals”. Itzamná, “The Dew of the Sky”, came to
the Mayab from Atlantis bringing its great knowledge with him and leaving it in
the Maya pyramids as a great gift for humankind; a gift of spiritual rebirth.
Throughout the week-long course you will learn to identify the various signs of
Atlantis in the Maya sites and learn how to interpret them to receive the
lessons waiting for you there. Through meditations and practices you can then
call up your personal memories of Atlantis.
Mayan Calendars and Prophecies for 2012
Maya Shamanism I (note this program is 6 nights, ask us for the
revised prices)
This is an introduction to Maya Shamanism. The goal is to awaken the Shaman
within you as you learn about shamanism in the Maya world. This ancient
tradition is still very much alive in many of the Maya towns and villages today
and Miguel Angel will teach you some of their practices. This special 5 day
course includes classroom work, ceremonies, meditations, practices, and a visit
with a local Mayan shaman.
Traditional Maya Medicine I
Learn about Maya healing philosophy, techniques, and practices. This course is
intended for healers looking to increase their knowledge and skills as well as
for individuals looking for healing for their bodies, communities and the
planet.
2009 Course Schedule
Each course consists of 6 days of study (Monday through Saturday), with a
total of 36 hours. Arrival and departure day is on a Sunday. 7 nights
hotel accommodation and continental breakfast daily is included. The 36 hours
will be a combination of classroom work, meditation, practices, visits to Maya
sites, and sacred ceremony. The classes will be small and are intended for
students who want to go deep into the study of specific aspects of the Maya
sacred wisdom.
The Maya Cosmic Institute is housed in a beautiful private Spanish Colonial
house in the Historical Center of Mérida, Yucatán. Being a “cosmic” Institute,
not a material one, it does not need a large campus with modern buildings. The
spacious classroom, which accommodates 20 students comfortably, is a large and
airy room with almost 20 foot high ceilings, and a couple of hundred years of
history. The lovely garden has a large grassy area where students can relax
during breaks and where the ceremonies are performed, and is currently being
planted with local herbs, plants, flowers, and trees from the Yucatán. And, of
course, there is a ceiba tree, the Maya Sacred Tree, growing in the garden.

Casa del Balam
Hotel Casa del Balam is located in the historic Centro of Mérida. As one of the
oldest hotels in Mérida, Casa del Balam prides itself on providing old-world
service in a hotel that was once the private home of one of Mérida’s most
distinguished families. The hotel is one of the few original Mexico Art Deco
houses left in the colonial city of Mérida. It has a traditional Yucatecan home
ambience with an eclectic flair. Its tranquil elegance welcomes guests as they
walk through its original stone doorway. Antique Carrera black and white marble
floors and Moorish arches frame the main interior and the garden. The owner’s
