Sacred Journeys - Mexico
Tour Description
Flight of the
Stellar Serpent is the second of two journeys offered in 2007 in our
Maya Sacred Path to 2012 program. This is a tour series that will be
offered each year leading up to 2012, the end of the Maya calendar. Each program
is created to help you prepare for and deal with the many changes and shifts
happening in the world around you. In this journey we will be traveling to
Palenque in Chiapas and Tikal in Guatemala on our continuing yearly
trips to study the cosmology of the Maya. The focus of all of our trips is
always about understanding our true spiritual nature.
In Palenque, we will visit many of the sacred buildings including the
Temple of the Inscriptions, which houses the tomb of Lord Pacal Votan.
Recent studies have revealed hidden, esoteric meanings in the design of the
amazing Sarcophagus Lid of this tomb. These meanings and teachings were
only meant to be “discovered” at the end-times of the Mayan Calendar, when the
evolution of human consciousness was once-again capable of discerning the cues
to synchronizing with natural, cyclical galactic harmonic frequencies. This is
also an indication our spiritual development is such that we can surpass a
mental understanding of Mayan teachings to a true awareness of our nature.
Tikal, like many other Mayan sites, was a center for astronomy and the
keeping of sacred calendars that marked not time, but evolution of
consciousness. The stelae there offer fantastic insights into the cosmology of
the Maya and the entry into the dark-rift (Galactic Mother) for the purpose of
rebirth and the new coming-forth of ages. The sacred site of Tikal is situated
in the middle of a huge untouched Peten jungle preserve. The only electricity is
powered by an electrical generator, so if you’re planning on checking your
E-Mail, it better be “Etheric Mail”. Without all the modern conveniences, it
will be easier for us to focus on the real meaning of this sacred site as a
marker for galactic and soul-alignments. Keep in mind as you walk through
Tikal, that satellite imagery of Guatemala reveals that only 2% of the
ancient structures have been uncovered.
This program offers a unique opportunity for personal transformation. Each one
of us will begin the journey as a serpent with the possibility of being reborn.
Each day, as we travel through the sacred land of the Maya, participating in
ceremonies, meditating, and visiting the ancient sites, we will shed our old
skin and acquire a new one. At the end of our journey each of us will become,
symbolically, a new Kukulkan, a feathered serpent. The essence of the feathers
represents our inner spirituality and when they are connected to the serpent’s
body, which represents the wisdom and knowledge of Mother Earth, we become
teachers linking heaven and earth, spirit and matter.
Joining us again as our group leaders to guide us in our spiritual work are Maya
Master Teacher Miguel Angel Vergara and Dr. Richard Jelusich.
Richard and Miguel Angel, working together and individually, will use
meditation, stories, legends, rituals, mantras, and ceremonies to awaken our
higher nature, activate our chakras, and study more seriously the higher purpose
of the Maya. Joining us for some of these ceremonies will be local shamans who
will also help guide us and heal us, on our journey. Richard & Miguel Angel will
lecture on Hidden Meanings on the lid of Pacal Voltan’s Sarcophagus, and
Richard will lecture on The Mayan Calendar and Celestial Alignments.
Please join us on this transformational journey – but please book early to avoid
disappointment – our tour filled quite quickly last year, and we are limiting
participation to 30 people. Also please note that it is not required that you
commit to every year in the program, you may join us for one or more tours as
you please. Each tour is a stand-alone program.
Testimonials
I arrived in Merida
with an open mind and heart. I could never have imagined the gifts that I would
receive while there - from the Gods, the land, the people of the Yucatan and
from my fellow travellers. This trip has changed me in some very profound ways
and I will never view life and the universe in the same way. To me this trip was
a gift and I sincerely thank Helen, Trudy, Julia, Richard and Miguel Angel. To
me it was an honor to be on the trip and working on such dynamic levels. I will
be on every trip until 2012.
Kathy Watt, Calgary, Alberta (Maya Sacred Path to 2012 - Dec/06)
Every step, every breath, and every heartbeat in the Yucatan was sacred and
unlocked another piece of my true soul essence. I have a sense of freedom within
my physicality that has never existed for me....I released years of trauma. I
feel as though I am floating in a void of possibilities and not restricted by
the past. I can't wait for my self-limiting mind to catch up to this new
freedom.
Sheryl Watson, (Maya Sacred Path to 2012 - Dec/06)
Edmonton, Alberta
My experience was life changing on your tour. I went with no expectations and
came away feeling I needed to share the Mayan messages with everyday people to
help them wake up to the natural cycles of life. I wrote down all the ceremonies
and plan to repeat them on our mountain. Miguel's message was loud and clear
that we need to wake up and recognize our ancestors, send them love and heed
their warnings. The ceremonies were awesome and my awakening secured. The
sacredness of the sites that we visited in the jungles and on the normal tourist
trips were awe inspiring. Opening our chakra systems and recognizing the
intellect of the Mayans makes one wonder why their knowledge lay dormant for so
long. I plan on going next year with my husband and every year after that until
there is no need to travel.
Linda Strom-Medvitz, (Maya Sacred Path to 2012 - Dec/06)
El Cajon, CA
The trip was above and beyond anything that I could have perceived. I went with
no expectations but with an open heart. Richard was amazing as always and Miguel
Angel was a gift beyond measure. All the ceremonies were insightful and brought
great spiritual growth for me. I can hardly wait for next year!! I do not
believe that anyone can go on a journey like that and remain unchanged. The
group was great and I believe that many of us will remain lifelong friends.
Eva-Marie Saumier, (Maya Sacred Path to 2012 - Dec/06)
Banff, Alberta
I set out a year ago to find a trip my daughter Luc and I could take that would
provide us with a lasting memory of our last year living together. My little
puma finishes school this year and plans to move on to greater places than
Rockyford. As budgets are tight in my world, I wanted a trip that offered an
educational and unique experience for both of us. This trip served up far more
than either of us expected I think. It was more than a glimpse of Mayan culture
and history; it was a healing journey for both of us and tackled some things we
both needed to ditch to move into our future(s) whole and centered. We will keep
our memories of a wonderful trip with wonderful people to a mysterious land. I
send a big heart chakra hug to Sacred Earth Journeys and all involved in
organizing and executing this trip.

Maya Sacred Path to 2012 was more than a trip; it was a life transforming event
that brought the true beauty of the Maya in to focus as no one else could. The
guides were knowledgeable, and approachable in the way that one would approach a
long time friend, and it attracted the kind of people that are likely to be
friends long after the trip is done.
Tim Snodgrass (Maya Sacred Path to 2012 - Dec/06)
El Cajon, CA
In my many travels, I found this to be the most interesting tour I have ever
been on. There was a lot of information covered during the days there, yet it
left me wanting more. That's a good thing! It was an amazing journey into the
past and the future. It was so spiritually enlightening that I relive the
experience every day through my memories and my photo's. I thank Sacred Earth
Journeys and all of those who were instrumental in putting the journey together.
Also not to forget the others who came on the trip and experienced the journey.
They too made the journey complete. What a ride!
Al Domingo, (Maya Sacred Path to 2012 - Dec/06)

The temples, land, and people interaction was more than I expected. Having a
great local guide in Don Miguel Angel was a blessing. His knowledge, passion and
dedication to his mission provided us with an experience beyond a vacation. Time
and place were transcended!

How do you begin to explain a mind blowing, mind bending, heart opening,
experience in just mere words?? I started out with the feeling that I had not a
lot to offer the group. As we progressed through each of the Sites and Chakra's,
I became stronger and stronger. Fears melted away. My heart was open to the
Group and the Universe. I began to hold space. My shoulder was available to
those who needed a helping hand traversing some of the sites. The same shoulder
was available to those who were processing their own fears to hold them, breath
with them, let my energy flow through. What a feeling to be connected with
another Human and the Universe. I have been telling Donna in the past I don't
feel this energy that you all are talking about and many have told me I posses a
great deal of. NOW I believe. I felt it at many sites but at Chichen Itza it
really became evident. I have a picture of me plastered with my back up against
the wall. I am breathing in and trying to give energy back to the pyramid IT
WON'T LET ME!!!! It is pushing my hands out from the wrists then almost to my
elbows. The picture shows this glowing area at my Heart Chakra. Call it just the
way the sun is shining, etc. Call it just my imagination but to me is was
really, really real. I think I was just about the oldest member of the Group. I
will be 75 my next birthday. As people found out my age all said age has nothing
to do with it. Your energy, holding space within the group etc. was what
counted.
We observed many, many tour groups JUST LOOKING at the Temples, etc. Yes we to
saw the magnificence of the temples and the knowledge of the ages contained.
More importantly, this was truly a SACRED JOURNEY but not one just outward, but
inward, penetrating deeply into the very crevices of the mind and heart, peeling
away all facades, exposing the real you and your potential and responsibility to
offer healing to the earth. To share wisdom with others at your level of
understanding at this time. Knowing that it is only a beginning of my journey
that will continue during this lifetime.
Harry Bair (The Bear) (Maya Sacred Path to 2012 - Dec/06)
La Mesa, CA
The only true way to impress you with the value of taking a trip like this to
the Yucatan is to have you go yourself. Only a first-hand experience can truly
convey the wisdom and cosmic knowledge the Maya people had. We are all Maya,
returned to this place in this time, to build a harmonious and eager
understanding of our true nature. I have gleaned much understanding from this
trip, and will be adding to my teachings in the future. We were fortunate enough
to have Miguel Angel Vergara, Ph.D., a Mayan Master Teacher, with us. We did
authentic Mayan ceremony at the top of the pyramid at Chichen Itza, and several
ceremonies at sites, including Loltun, Uxmal, and Ek Balam. Miguel explained to
us his understanding of the true meaning of many of the Mayans philosophies and
teachings. As you hear me say: "95% of all communication is energy, not verbal
or physical;" so it is with the Yucatan peninsula. We are very fortunate that
Helen Tomei, the owner of Sacred Earth Journeys, has the desire to build such
wonderful spiritual journeys. She came along on our travels, and our group
bonded instantly and made our experiences only stronger. You cannot go on a trip
like this and not experience fundamental changes in your character and
understanding of our nature.
Richard Jelusich, Ph.D.
Tour Leader - Journey to the Land of the Maya - Oct/05
San Diego, CA
I know you don't need my words to convey how much I loved this trip, Helen. When
I wasn't having fun with everybody, I was in calm, reverent beingness. The whole
trip was perfect - you, Richard Jelusich, Miguel Angel, Trudy, Julia, our driver
Victor Manuel, the hotels, food (especially mangoes!), and most of all the
selection of sacred sites and how Miguel taught us so much about them (which of
course was teaching us about ourselves and who we really are). And who could
guess we'd get to swim, leap and play in a sublime, other-worldly cenote?! What
a multi-dimensional journey altogether. Thank you so much for your part in
making the magic happen, Helen. You and the other tour leaders made me feel
totally supported and taken care of.
Kathleen Ludwig (Journey to the Land of the Maya - Oct/05)

I loved the trip!!! It was so much more than I expected, thank you so much for
supplying all the little extras, like the horse drawn carts, and having water on
hand in the bus, they were really nice little touches. The hotels were
beautiful, much nicer than I expected, food was out of this world, service was
top notch, didn't meet a person I didn't like. The Mayan sites were mindboggling.
Miguel Angel is truly an angel, one of the kindest and most focused men I've met
in my life. Trudy & our driver Guillermo were wonderful, we all became fast
friends. All in all, I LOVED it, and almost can't believe it really happened.
Thank you Sacred Earth Journeys!

I can't think of any way to improve that trip to Mexico. It was outstanding in
everyway. I loved the variety of accomodations. Miguel Angel, Trudy, the
drivers, all did an excellent job. I wouldn't want to have missed any of the
Mayan sites, and the cenote at Chichen Itza was amazing. I came home so happy -
it was absolutely wonderful. I liked staying in Merida as well. Helen you did an
outstanding job. Now I want to go to Peru next. The best of everything to you!

About Your Tour Leaders
Miguel Angel Vergara Calleros
Miguel Angel studied for 17 years with Mayan elder, Don Vincente Martin, who was
a wisdom keeper, professional teacher and artist. Miguel Angel is also a master
in his own right, known as Master Nazul, and teaches seminars in Mexico and
abroad on Mayan astronomy, philosophy, calendar, glyphs & symbols, medicine,
cosmovision, traditions and prayers, ceremonies and healing.
Miguel Angel shows us how to connect with the masters of light who are still at
the sacred sites waiting to teach and guide us now, as in ancient times. He
conducts tours to these Mayan sites so that people can experience first hand the
powerful activating energies of those areas. His knowledge and experience makes
the journey come alive as you begin to understand how the messages were
imprinted, what the glyphs mean, what uses the buildings had, and how ceremonies
were conducted.
Miguel Angel has been studying, teaching, and living the Maya wisdom for over
twenty- five years. He teaches in a heart-centered style that connects rapidly
and profoundly with his audience. Those who experience him realize they are in
the presence of a master and are being given an extraordinary gift.
He enjoys collaborating with other teachers and is always interested in learning
more. He is a joy to work with and is generous with both his knowledge and his
time.
Miguel Angel Vergara is the author of several books on the Maya including two on
Chichen Itza and a recent book on the Maya Goddesses and the role of women in
the ancient Maya culture.
Richard Jelusich, Ph.D.
Dr. Jelusich has been teaching, giving lectures, workshops and private sessions
for over 20 years. He is Dean of Administration and Core Faculty at the
California Institute for Human Science. His Ph.D. is in Human Science, and his
research work is in light and sound, and the blending of metaphysics and
science. Richard is a gifted intuitive and adept energy worker, accurately
reading how the soul-quality infuses itself into our waking personality.
Dr. Jelusich’s goals are very simple:
• To de mystify metaphysics.
• To profoundly heal and help self-empower individuals on multiple levels
Richard’s “Healer’s Training for the Whole Human Being” has over 95 students in
cities in the U.S. and Canada. He travels extensively, teaching a 17-Level,
2-year course in spiritual healing and philosophy of the Whole Human Being.
The Eye of the Lotus is Dr. Jelusich’s book about the Psychology of The
Chakras, published by Lotus Press, and is now in its second printing. Dr.
Jelusich’s work is about how dominant chakras affect the way we perceive and
react to our life’s experiences. The chakras are our access to our higher
selves, and each affects our nature and disposition uniquely through our mental,
spiritual, physical and emotional states.
The Eye of the Lotus contains discussion and philosophy of the chakras,
including many examples and a detailed discussion of each dominant chakra. There
are also many exercises, including hatha yoga techniques for toning and
balancing the chakras, meditations and prayers, essential oils, sounds that heal
the chakras, and much more.

After breakfast and introductions to our group leaders we will visit Parque
de La Venta, a one-of-a-kind outdoor archaeology museum. Giant stone heads from
the Olmec civilization can be seen here in a beautiful park setting. One head is
eight feet high and weighs about 24 tons. The Olmec were the oldest civilization
in Mexico, preceding the Maya. They are considered to be the mother civilization
of the Maya.
Travel through Tabasco into Chiapas and on to Palenque for the start of the
Flight of the Stellar Serpent.
Join Richard and Miguel Angel for a lecture tonight on Hidden Meanings on the
lid of Pacal Voltan’s Sarcophagus.

Day 3 Thu, Dec 6: Misol Ha / Palenque (B, L)
Travel along the winding road up into the mountains to the beautiful
waterfalls at Misol Ha. Here Miguel Angel will lead us in a purification ritual
and our opening ceremonies to ask the Maya spirits for permission and protection
for us while we travel through their sacred land. Our work at this waterfall is
to prepare us for receiving the wisdom and hidden meanings waiting for us
throughout the sacred site of Palenque. This site is filled with some of the
most beautiful architecture and artwork found anywhere in the Maya world. We
will walk through the site with Miguel Angel and Richard and see many of the
buildings, including the Temple of the Inscriptions which houses the tomb of
Lord Pacal Votan.
(Overnight, Palenque)
Day 4 Fri, Dec 7: Bonampak / Flores (B, L)
An early start this morning with a breakfast stop at Selva Perdido (Lost
Jungle) and then on to the site of Bonampak where we will participate in a Maya
ceremony and view the original Maya wall paintings while learning about their
symbolism from Miguel Angel.
Our journey now takes us across the Usumacinta River to Bethel in Guatemala. It
is about a three hour drive from here to Flores where we will be spending the
next three nights. We should reach the hotel in time for dinner and enjoy a free
evening in the beautiful Guatemalan town of Flores.
(Overnight in Flores)
Day 5 Sat, Dec 8: Tikal: Part One (B)
This will be a full day at the impressive Maya city of Tikal. Led by Miguel
Angel and Richard we will participate in a ceremony/meditation to help us
connect with the energy of this sacred Maya site. Tikal, like many other Maya
sites, was a center for astronomy and the keeping of sacred calendars that
marked not time, but the evolution of consciousness. The stelae here offer
fantastic insights into the cosmology of the Maya and the entry into the
dark-rift (Galactic Mother) for the purpose of rebirth and the new coming-forth
of the ages.
(Overnight hotel in Flores)
Day 6 Sun, Dec 9: Tikal: Part Two (B)
Take a second look at the amazing site of Tikal. Today a local shaman joins
us to guide us to a hidden sanctuary where we will do our meditation. This
should be a very special event. Before leaving the site you will have some free
time to find your personal connections with Tikal.
Join us tonight to share your experiences and ask questions of our leaders.
(Overnight hotel in Flores)
Day 7 Mon, Dec 10: Flores to Frontera Corozal (B, D)
After breakfast you will have the morning free to explore the town of
Flores, do some shopping, or just relax at the hotel and meditate by the lake.
Or, if you have the energy and the desire, you have the option to return to
Tikal for a couple of hours to look at the site on your own.
Our bus leaves in the early afternoon to take us back to Mexico. We will go to
the boarder crossing at the Usumacinta River, cross to Frontera Corozal in
Mexico where we will have dinner together and spend the night.
(Overnight Hotel Escudo Jaguar)
Day 8 Tue, Dec 11: Yaxchilan to Palenque (B, L)
This morning we take a boat up the Usumacinta River to the isolated site of
Yaxchilan. We will participate in a ceremony with Miguel Angel and tour the
site, returning to the hotel for lunch. We then head back to our hotel in
Palenque.

Alignments.

deep in the middle of the jungle. Here we will be led by Miguel Angel in a water
purification ritual followed by our closing ceremony. This is where we emerge as
Kukulkan, the feathered serpent.
