Day 1 - Thu, Jun 22: Depart your home city/Arrive Lima, Peru |
|
Depart your home city to Lima.
Arrive late evening. Assistance on arrival; transfer to a nearby airport hotel.
Overnight Lima. |
|
|
|
Day 2 - Fri, June23: Arrive Lima/To Juliaca and Chucuito (D) |
|
Transfer to the airport for the flight to Juliaca. Arrive
and meet our Guide Jorge Luis Delgado. Transfer to the hotel in Chucuito, with a
stop at the mysterious site of Sillustani, with its circular burial
towers, overlooking beautiful Lake Umayo, where Jorge will lead us in a
traditional ritual to connect with the MamaPacha, to truly know ourselves as
Children of the Sun, and as Chakarunas are pledged to share the
loving and transformative Andean energies, to help elevate consciousness on our
planet.
We continue through
Puno, port city on Lake Titicaca, to the quiet village of Chucuito,
arriving late afternoon at our hotel overlooking the beautiful shores of Lake
Titicaca. We are now in the heart of the Andean feminine energy - the
powerful MamaCocha (The Mother Lake). Check in and take some free
time to settle in. Take a walk on the hotel grounds, have a cup of tea in the
lounge, next to the pool and fountain. Enjoy a soak in the Jacuzzi in the spa
area of the hotel! If you would like to pre-book a massage, please let us know
this the day before so that Jorge can arrange this for you. Relax, relax, relax.
OR, you can walk across the road from the hotel to the ancient pre-Incan
Fertility Temple to explore and meditate with these powerful energies.
Group dinner at the hotel. Overnight Chucuito. |
|
|
|
|
|
Day 3 - Sat, Jun 24:
Aramu Muru’s Doorway & Copamaya (B/L/D) |
|
Depart the hotel and drive south along the Pan-American
Highway to visit Aramu Muru’s Doorway. Upon arrival we sit in the
Inca’s Sun Seat that faces the Lake to connect with its nurturing feminine
energies. Then we walk on a large rock formation, the Serpent/Puma Rock,
to connect with the energies of the Lower and Middle Worlds. We continue through
a wonderland of strange natural rock formations, pass by the mysterious
Valley of the Spirits and finally trek down to the Doorway. Stand
back and look up. You will see Arama Mara, the consort of Aramu Muru lying atop
the doorway, forever guarding it and the interdimensional portal through which
her partner stepped, as he left the 3rd dimension, or so the local
legends say! Jorge is the re-discoverer of the Doorway; we’ll hear his amazing
story.
Meditation at the Doorway: Please wait to go into
the Doorway to meditate until you are prepared. Jorge will offer you support as
to the traditional manner in which to approach it. Then we will take turns for
private mediation, to connect with the otherworldly energies of this famous
power spot! Remember to bring your journal, as you may want to record your
thoughts and feelings about your visions and gifts from Spirit. Return to hotel
for lunch. Short rest time.
Afternoon visit to Sun Gate and the Copamaya
altars, to give thanks to the MamaCocha, Lake Titicaca. Return to the
hotel. Group dinner. Overnight Chucuito. |
|
|
 |
|
|
|
Day 4 - Sun, Jun
25: To Amantani Island (B/L/D) |
|
We get an early start for our full day excursion via speedboat to Amantani
Island, a place of beauty and tranquility, which has remained relatively
unspoiled by tourism. The island’s fertile lands are home to some 300 Aymara
families that live according to their ancestral customs, with the men devoted to
agriculture and fishing, and women to weaving. The textiles that they produce
and wear are a lineage that is very ancient. Under the energy of the apu
Pachatata, one of Amantani Island's two peaks, we visit the Temple of the
PachaPapa (masculine energy) and/or Temple of the MamaPacha (feminine energy) to
make our offering and ask for the blessing for our well-being. Lunch included.
Return to the hotel late afternoon. Group dinner.
Overnight Chucuito. |
|
|
|
|
|
Day 5 - Mon, Jun 26: To Copacabana & Island of the Sun (B/L/D) |
|
After our early breakfast we check out of the hotel and depart south along the
Pan American Highway, crossing the border into Bolivia at Copacabana, meaning
“view of the lake” from the Aymara kota kawana.
Our destination today is the Island of the Sun, the birthplace of the
Inca Empire. Legend says that darkness covered the land and the waters. From
Lake Titicaca rose Father Sun, Taytay Inti, to bring life to Mother Earth,
Pachamama. When Father Sun saw that humans were living no better than animals he
sent his son, Manco Capac, and his daughter, Mama Ocllo, to rule and teach the
people. These two became the founders of the Inca royal dynasty. Upon arrival we
hike past small farms, through a series of gateways that are part of an ancient
pilgrimage route. We follow the Inca steps where water from a natural spring
runs through three stone channels. The sacred water is said to cure ailments and
bring longevity. The three stone channels represent the three commandments of
Inca life: Don't Lie, Don't Steal, and Don't be Lazy. We end our walk at
the Sun Temple Complex, an amazing sacred site that includes the remains of a
labyrinth structure, a ceremonial table, and the Puma Rock. We spend a full day
exploring the island; box lunch included. Jorge Luis, who has trained from an
early age with the local Kallahuayas, master healers who are direct
descendents of the vanished Tiahuanaco culture, will share some of the practices
that have been past down through the generations using herbs, stones, amulets
and chants. In the late afternoon as the sun is setting over the Lake, we return
to Copacabana and check into our hotel. After our group dinner take some time to
enjoy the friendly atmosphere of Copacabana. Stroll throughout town, sit on the
lake shore and take in the stars, or visit the local cathedral to meditate with
La Virgen de la Candelaria (also
called the "Dark Virgin"), reputed to have miraculous healing powers. The
original statue, carved from cactus in 1583 by Francisco Tito Yupanqui, nephew
of Inca emperor Huayna Capac, has made the church Bolivia's most revered
pilgrimage site. Overnight Copacabana. |
|
|
|
|
|
Day 6 - Tue, Jun 27: To Island of the Moon & La Paz Bolivia (B/L/D) |
|
After breakfast, it’s another early departure from the
hotel and out onto the Lake to visit the Island of the Moon, a very
peaceful island surrounded by clear aquamarine water, with views of the
snow-capped Cordillera Real mountain range, and the powerful apu Illampu
in the distance. We visit the site of an Inca Era temple, the Acllahusi,
the cloister for Chosen Women, or Virgins of the Sun,
and one of the most powerful centers of feminine energy on the planet today.
We continue to the mainland and
arrive in La Paz later afternoon. After checking into our hotel, explore a bit
of the Bolivia’s capital city, the highest capital city in the world at 12,000
ft. before our group dinner. Overnight La Paz. |
|
|
 |
|
|
|
Day 7 - Wed, Jun 28: La Paz: Shaman Market, Museums (B/L/D) |
|
This morning we visit the Witches’ Market, situated
in a maze of narrow alleyways, and one of the more bizarre markets in the world!
Check out the unusual collection of merchandise, from herbs and remedies used in
Aymara traditional healing, to potions, charms, and dried llama fetuses. We also
visit the Coca Museum, a relatively new museum that describes the place
of coca in the traditions and culture of the Bolivians. From as far back as they
can remember, coca has been a part of their culture and has a place in legendary
history when the gods and goddesses used the divine coca leaf to alleviate
hunger, cold, fatigue and pain. At first the chewing of leaves was restricted to
use in religious ceremonies and by upper-class families, but the Spaniards soon
became aware of its stimulating effects. They began to promote it widely among
the Indian laborers to increase output and numb the senses against the hardships
and anxieties they faced. The displays are very provocative and educational, and
also include the use and exploitation of coca in the soft drink and
pharmaceutical companies.
After lunch at a local restaurant, you have the afternoon
free to explore on your own. Perhaps visit San Francisco Church, the National
Museum of Art, or explore the craftsmanship along Sagárnaga Street. Visits to
the Valley of the Moon, Devil's Tooth, and Palca Canyon outside of the city can
be arranged. Share your afternoon exploration experiences during our group
dinner this evening. Overnight La Paz. |
|
|
|
|
|
Day 8 - Thu.
Jun 29: To Tiahuanaco (B/L/D) |
|
We depart this morning for
full day of exploration and experiences at Tiahuanaco,
the ancient site considered by many archaeologists and historians to be
the cradle of the American civilization, and perhaps even the oldest ruins in
the world! This city made of stone, found at an altitude of 12,500 ft, was
certainly one of the oldest American cultures, dating from 1580 BC to 1150 AC,
or more! From around AC 100 to AC 1000, this was the seat of power for a vast
empire. It was located on the shores of Lake Titicaca. However, today the temple
is 12 miles away, as the Lake's water level lowered and the shoreline receded
from the city. Today the waters are many miles away. The Puerta del Sol,
or Sun Gate, has become a symbol of Bolivia and the Aymara, descendants
of the ancient builders who constructed an imposing empire on the cold, dry
altiplano, or highland plateaus. During the heyday of the city, religious
artifacts from there spread across the southern Andes. However, when the
conquering Incas arrived in the mid-fifteenth century, the site had already been
mysteriously abandoned for half a millennium. Even after its abandonment,
Tiahuanaco continued to be an important religious site for the local people, and
later became incorporated into Inca mythology as the birthplace of mankind, as
the Inca built their own structures alongside the ruins. Tiahuanaco remains an
integral locale in the religious lives of Andean people in the turbulent present
of modern Bolivia. Although dozens of national and international projects began
to unlock its secrets during the last century, only recently are archaeologists
beginning to piece together the puzzle behind the origin of this architectural
marvel and the people who built it. Lunch included.
Visit the Akapana pyramid, the largest terraced
pyramid of the city, which was once believed to be a modified hill, but has
since proven to be a massive human construction with a base 656 ft. square and a
height of 55.8 ft. On the summit of the Akapana, reached by wide staircases,
there was a sunken court with an area 164 ft. square serviced by a subterranean
drainage system.
The megalithic entrance to the Kalasaya Temple is a
stairway that is a well-worn megalith carved from a single block of sandstone.
The statue in the center of the doorway is believed by many archaeologists and
researchers to be a solstice and equinox marker.
The nearby Sunken Courtyard is walled by standing
stones and masonry infill, and houses one of the mysteries of the site -
sculptured heads are inset in the walls that represent various races and ethnic
backgrounds. The Ponce and Fraile anthropomorphic figures or monoliths,
made from andesite stone that was transported from 100 kilometers away, stand
guard in the Kalasaya, holding their devices, whose purpose has been
much-debated.
The Gateway of the Sun is the most famous part of
the site. In this arched doorway the central figure represents the "Gateway God"
and the others on both sides represent his numerous attendants. The figure with
a feline face holding two staffs on the lintel of this massive arch represents
the ruling god of the Tiahuanaco pantheon. What are the many mysteries
associated with this ancient monument and site in general? What secrets does it
have to share? Take your time to discover, by group exploration with Jorge,
private exploration, as well as ceremony and ritual. Afternoon return to La Paz.
Group dinner. Overnight La Paz. |
