Halloween Greetings!
With Halloween soon approaching many thoughts come to mind and an array of emotions stir within me. Halloween has been a favourite holiday of mine since childhood, conjuring up feelings of excitement and playfulness, but it has now taken on a deeper meaning for me and has evolved into a time of deep contemplation. Sure, candy is always great, especially if you have a sweet tooth like me, but this time is also a time for remembrance, for self examination, and for renewal.
Last year during this time, I found myself immersed in the Day of the Dead Festivals in Mexico City and then on to the desert of San Luis Potosí to face new challenges at the Centre of the Conscious Dream. With every new journey, there is trepidation, hesitation, so we began the journey with remembrance and reverence, calling in the aid of those who had long passed. Are there loved ones you seek to reconnect with during this time? Do you feel their wisdom pouring into you, their protection enveloping you? They are there if you welcome them, so open up and allow. We then continued our journey with deep meditation and reflection. I took long walks into the expanse of the desert, thinking, listening, struggling, inviting. It was a time of great transformation and growth for me, and a time that has truly served me well. This year, I have accepted new challenges and new opportunities for growth that are opening up a thrilling future and a whole new inspiring world of potential for me.
Of course, with new challenges come doubts, questions and sometimes even fears, so I find it a perfect time to ask all of you, "What are you afraid of?" Is there a boogey man lurking in your closet? A goblin hiding underneath your bed? Are you afraid to look? Fear not only holds us back, but it sometimes forces us to wear a mask. What masks have you found yourself wearing? Do you have them ready at hand, or do you struggle with the mystery of which mask to put on for this and that? What if there were no masks? What if there was just you in all your glory, strong and confident in your self, and ready to draw back the curtain or turn on the light. Imagine the potential if we just took a chance and peered into the voids that cause us fear and faced our own inner demons? What if we were able to overcome that heavy feeling that often holds us back? Let us call in the wisdom of our ancestors, our guides and our angels, the innate wisdom that lies within us, and trust in the universe. There may be tests and tribulations along the way, and we may need a few tricks up our sleeves to help us along, but all makes for an exhilarating journey with many treats waiting to be discovered.
