Protecting Sacred Sites
By Robert Scheer
|
|
Some visitors don’t
realize it’s not OK to pocket a stone or a small scoop
of soil from sacred sites, but in fact it’s against the
law in most countries. It also creates very bad karma. |

The Power of Place - Pilgrimage
and the lure of sacred sites
by Martin Gray |
|
Why do human beings make pilgrimages
to sacred sites? How do we account for the historical
fact - evident in nearly every culture and era - that
sacred places have been and continue to be the most
visited places on the planet? Two answers sometimes
suggested are the momentum of religious tradition (an
old condition) and modern day tourism (a recent effect). |

Sedona - Sacred Places & Vortexes
May 12-16, 2004 - with Dorothy Neddermeyer and Mark Amaru &
Andrea Pinkham
October 20-24, 2004 - with Mark Amaru and Andrea Pinkham |
| Your
Sacred Journey excursion will take you to the spiritual
mecca of Sedona and its mystical power spots. Sedona is
nicknamed the "Land of Awes and Spirituality"
because of its awesome Red Rock formations and its magical
and mystical energies! Since the dawn of time, travelers
have ventured to these parts of the Southwest. Whether they
came in search of adventure or spiritual fulfillment, they
experienced a common phenomenon: This land changed their
lives forever. Our October journey includes a visit to the White
Buffalo family and the world-famous Grand Canyon. |

Tibet – Journey to Sacred Mt.
Kailas - Saga Dawa Festival
May 23-June 16, 2004 |
| Mt Kailas is
said to be the mythical Mt Mera, the centre of the universe.
It is revered in both Hindu and Buddhist legends, while
its location, close to the sources of the four main rivers
that flow across the Indian sub-continent, contributes to
its mystic. Our program includes a week long journey from
Lhasa (via Gyantse and Shigatse) across the grain of the
vast Tibetan plateau. We plan to reach Mt Kailas at the
time of the Saga Dawa festival, held on the May/June full
moon, when many thousands of pilgrims from throughout Tibet
gather to pay homage to the mountain. After the festive
celebrations we will undertake a three-day trek around Mt
Kailas and a sojourn around the shores of Lake Manasarovar
following the path of pilgrims on their quest for spiritual
enlightenment. There are also options for the non-trekker
to savour this spectacular sacred environment before returning
to the Kathmandu Valley. |
