Plant medicines such as Wachuma (San Pedro)<\/a> have been used for thousands of years amongst Indigenous populations worldwide.<\/p>\n

In more recent years, these sacred plants have become increasingly available to those living outside native communities. Western travellers in particular are becoming more interested in traditional medicine<\/strong> and ancient wisdom teachings<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

When sacred plant medicines are administered in a ceremonial context under the guidance of a Shaman or healer, they can provide profoundly healing and transformative experiences.<\/p>\n

Wachuma (San Pedro): The Sacred Cactus<\/h2>\n

Wachuma (also known as San Pedro) is a sacred cactus native to the Andean mountains of Peru<\/a>, Bolivia, and Ecuador. Along with Tobacco, Ayahuasca, and Coca, it is one of Peru\u2019s most sacred plants, and has been used for over\u00a04,000 years to\u00a0heal and expand consciousness<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The medicine is typically prepared as a tea<\/strong>; pieces of the stem are boiled for a few hours, and once the liquid is cooled it is taken orally. It is known as a gentle, powerful Masculine teacher plant<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

San Pedro is a tool for meditation and self-awareness<\/strong>, helping to clear past wounds and enable a more heart-centered way of being. It can bring limiting thoughts and beliefs to the surface of one\u2019s consciousness; what no longer serves our highest good has the opportunity to be released (purged).<\/p>\n

Through purifying and balancing the body, mind, and spirit, it facilitates the expansion of consciousness and makes room for more lightness in our life experience. Freeing ourselves<\/strong> of our limitations helps us feel a greater sense well-being, love and affinity for others, and a deeper connectedness with Mother Earth (Pachamama<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Wachuma: Use as Part of a Sacred Ceremony<\/h2>\n

It is very important to work with this medicine as part of a sacred ceremony, and with the protection of the ancestral spirits<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

On our upcoming journey to Peru<\/a>, travellers will have the opportunity to participate<\/a> in several optional San Pedro ceremonies under the care of our tour leader, Puma Quispe Singona, an Andean Medicine Man, Healer and Wisdom Keeper. Puma’s wisdom and guidance<\/strong> can reconnect us with the ancestral energy that is ready to help us heal and transform our lives for the better.<\/p>\n

We will also have the opportunity to work with two wonderful traditional Andean healers<\/strong>: Don Sebastian is a Q\u2019ero Master with wisdom from the lineage of the Q\u2019ero People, and Mama Irene is an older medicine woman who comes from a powerful lineage of healers in the Peruvian Andes<\/a>. These healers will have a profound and lasting impact on our understanding of energy work and Andean medicine.<\/p>\n
