\"\"<\/a>Celebrations are such wonderful demonstrations of the human spirit; full of great generosity and gratitude. Diwali has all these elements and more. It pays respect to, and references, several historical achievements of good triumphing over evil, but like other autumn traditions, common across many cultures, it\u2019s a Festival of Light.<\/p>\n

As the harvest ends and the sunlight dwindles into winter darkness, it\u2019s a time to light lamps \u2013 to warm our hearts and our homes. This act also symbolizes the Inner Light within us. With such awareness and recognition, good deeds and offerings are made.<\/p>\n

As I reflect upon all the elements of this joyful occasion, of freedom, prosperity, well-being, and new beginnings, I can\u2019t help but notice that the timing coincides with Burma\u2019s long-awaited elections and Aung San Suu Kyi\u2019s upcoming release. I can only hope that the Burmese people will someday celebrate their own such Festival of Light and Freedom.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
