Today begins very early, setting the stage for one of the most extraordinary experiences of our journey. Wake-up calls will be at 3:30 AM, with luggage down by 4:00 AM. Breakfast boxes will be provided before we depart our resort in Soma Bay at 5:15 AM for the approximately 3.5-hour drive through the desert to Luxor.
Arriving at Karnak Temple around 9:00 AM, we’ll spend about 2 hours exploring this magnificent ancient complex before transferring to our Nile cruise ship, the Al Jamila, reserved exclusively for our group for the next four nights.
With the ship entirely to ourselves, we’ll gather on the sun deck to witness the rare total solar eclipse over Luxor. The partial eclipse begins at approximately 11:40 AM, building toward totality around 1:05 PM, when day briefly turns to darkness for just over six unforgettable minutes. The partial phase continues until approximately 2:26 PM, bringing this remarkable celestial event to a close.
In the evening, we’ll visit the beautifully illuminated Luxor Temple, uniquely built to celebrate kingship and believed to have been the coronation site of many ancient pharaohs.
