Vaidyagrama Ayurveda
Jaisri with our 2015 group in India

The programs take place at the Vaidyagrama Ayurveda Healing Village, Coimbatore, India, and each participant will be assigned a unique program according to local physician assessment. Individualized Panchakarma programs are intended to bring both physical and spiritual benefits of cleansing and rejuvenation. Though your journey is individual, the group presence is planned as a powerful silent witness and support.

Jaisri will consult with each participant prior to departure, to help plan the best outcomes for each individual and for the group. During the program Jaisri will be present as a group participant and facilitator, and may also lead discussions about Ayurveda and Panchakarma.

Each participant will be assigned a unique program according to local physician assessment and is individually responsible for personal outcomes. Though your journey is unique, the group presence is intended to be a silent witness and support.

Program Options:

41-Day Ayurveda Healing Program: Dec 16, 2016-Jan 31, 2017
If you choose this option, you will arrive at Vaidyagrama on December 16, and enjoy rest time and your first doctor’s visit from December 16-18. The Panchakarma program will run from December 19 to January 28 inclusive. You will then have rest time from January 29-31 before returning home.

29-Day Ayurveda Healing Program: Dec 16, 2016-Jan 19, 2017
If you choose this shorter option, you will arrive at Vaidyagrama on December 16, and enjoy rest time and your first doctor’s visit from December 16-18. The Panchakarma program will run from December 19 to January 16 inclusive. You will then have rest time from January 17-19 before returning home.

For both programs, there is usually one treatment per day, and medicines are administered at different times of the day, according to the physicians' advice for each individual patient. Three days rest are included before and after your treatment days, and may include a doctor's visit. Menstruation days preclude treatments in favour of rest.

About Vaidyagrama Ayurveda Healing Village

vaidyagrama healing centre
The team at the Vaidyagrama Healing Village

All programs will take place at the Vaidyagrama Ayurveda Healing Village, Coimbatore, India. Vaidyagrama literally means “healing village” and the village at Coimbatore, led by Dr. Ramkumar, includes a community of Ayurveda hospitals and physicians in a natural setting that is designed for optimum healing.

Vaidyagrama is environmentally friendly, and perfectly balances contemporary building practices with classical Ayurveda principles. The belief at Vaidyagrama is that the greater the harmony with nature the richer the health and wellness created.

As Dr. Ramkumar explains, Vaidyagrama was born of the desire to live simple, live well, live healthy and live happy. According to Ayurveda wellness includes physical wellbeing, mental and emotional wellbeing, spiritual wellbeing, social wellbeing, and environmental wellbeing. When all these aspects come together they create a state of optimum good health.

Staying at Vaidyagrama allows us to start or continue our healing journey on all levels of wellness, and treatments at the centre are fully personalized, taking into account the demands of life on our return home. The centre offers a full range of Ayurveda treatments including the popular Panchakarma.

About Ayurveda & Panchakarma (PK)

ayurveda treatment in india
Ayurveda Treatment, Sirodhara

Dr. Ramkumar tells us that Ayurveda is a way of life that deals not only with the body and mind but also with the human spirit and consciousness. It is the knowledge of life and longevity and promotes balance within the body for optimum health and wellbeing. When the body is out of balance on any level toxins cannot be properly removed and therefore build up creating disease and discomfort.

Ayurveda teaches us to understand how disease can enter our bodies and then how to restore balance and “ease”. We must first try to nourish our bodies in order for them to function well again and eliminate toxins that have built up. We can also remove the built-up toxic waste within us through a process of detoxification (Panchakarma). When all efforts are made to eliminate toxins, harmony can be restored to the body. For this to happen we need total physical and mental rest as well as the work of highly skilled Ayurvedic physicians.

Ayurvedic treatments are most successful when they are carried out in a suitably conducive environment – such as the Vaidyagrama Healing Village. Earth, water, fire, air, and space are the 5 great elements that compose this cosmos and every individual living being. The belief at Vaidyagrama is that when there is a state of balance between the elements there is peace and health all around both at the individual and cosmic level. At Vaidyagrama, therefore, there is a constant endeavour to keep these 5 elements in balance, and, as participants in their programs, we will feel this harmony at every level in our bodies.

Here Jaisri responds to some frequently asked questions, providing further insight into this unique program.

How many treatments per day are included in the Panchakarma program?
There is one treatment per day usually, and medicines are administered at different times of the day, according to the physicians’ advice for each individual patient. Three days rest are included before and after your treatment days. Menstruation precludes treatments in favour of rest.

Here’s a helpful blog from a Vaidyagrama patient to provide you with a good idea of the treatments and process of the Panchakarma.

Are vaccinations required or recommended? Is there Malaria?
Vaccinations are not mandatory; however, we suggest consulting with your local Travel Health Clinic as they may have some recommendations. Usually there is no malaria prevalent at Vaidyagrama – consult their website for more information.

Are there any special considerations or guidelines for treatment?
The Vaidyagrama team welcomes us as family members, marking the beginning of your Panchakarma program's deep self-healing, and providing an atmosphere of loving kindness beyond the clinical parameters of Panchakarma treatment. It's suggested to be off any western medications such as anti-depressants, sleep aids or other. Please advise Jaisri if you feel you must continue a pharmaceutical to help come to a decision in your long-term best interest.

A minimum of 3 days complete rest before and after treatment days is required and included in your package, and cannot be converted to treatment or travel days. Jaisri must be present at your initial physician's visit and be informed of significant changes in your health. Weekly group participant meetings will be held Mondays at 1pm for announcements to share our individual progress and/or explore a relevant topic of interest and to help you make the most of your program. Attendance is not required, but is suggested to be aware of any important announcements and developments.

Please take all physician-suggested herbal and mineral supplements according to directions of time, quantity, and avoidances, as your health results will have a direct correlation with compliance.

What is the food like at Vaidyagrama?
Simple Therapeutic Diet: Food at Vaidyagrama is simple, vegetarian, easy to digest and chosen to maximize cleansing of channel systems and assimilation of nutrients. It's suggested to eat on time, in silence, and alone to help tune into your individual digestion in preparation for returning home with improved dietary habits. Pay attention to cravings, which may reveal the causes of your symptoms (effects). It's suggested you don't consume your own snacks, beverages, or fruits on campus. Off-campus, it's suggested to peel fruits.

Can I exercise during treatment?
Exercise at Vaidyagrama is to be minimal to give emphasis for the process of cleansing toxins while strengthening your digestion and elimination. Gentle stretching can be helpful. Optional Yoga Nidra classes are included in your package. Walking in covered areas within the 3-acre compound is permitted, but not outside the hospital area in direct sunlight.

Will there be internet access?
Effort is made to minimize EMF exposure on the Vaidyagrama campus. It's suggested to limit your internet access. Talking may be tempting, but it's advised to take advantage of minimizing outer communication in favour of inner awareness. Meditation practice can benefit from increased emphasis and investment during Panchakarma. Journaling can also help review your experience of introversion.

Will I need private accommodation?
Feedback from our first Vaidyagrama group suggests that private accommodation is preferred to support safe, non-intrusive self-healing. Emotional release such as crying is not uncommon as the purification process gently reveals what is needed to let go. Sleep disturbance was also mentioned as a deterrent to sharing space, especially if you're not accustomed to sharing together. Individual preferences for air flow, lights, toileting needs etc. could be disturbing to your roommate at a time of increased sensitivity and awareness, both internally and externally.

Two drawers with lock are provided in each room in case of need to store items such as wallet, passport, jewellery. It's suggested not to bring valuables to India.

What personal care & clothing items will I need to bring?
It's suggested to bring your own organic shampoo, conditioner, insect repellent such as tea tree oil, and pumice stone for foot care. Clothing should be modest and inexpensive as many items become oily and ready for discard. Low necklines, sleeveless items, or garments showing the lower legs are not advised to observe standards of modest dress in India, especially when traveling off-campus, but Vaidyagrama itself is very tolerant, though conservative. Take packaged tissue/toilet tissue with you for travel. Not all rest rooms provide this. At Vaidyagrama, you can request toilet tissue for a small fee. Toilets at Vaidyagrama are well equipped for sanitation.

Are there are any post-Panchakarma considerations?
The classic medical scriptures of Ayurveda suggest observing the same restrictions (tapasya) as before and during the treatment phase for an equal time period to your treatment afterwards. If you are travelling home right away, please plan sufficient time and support to gradually become accustomed to your home routine, to maintain and deepen gains made during your treatment.

Vaidyagrama will arrange for you to purchase sufficient herbal medicines for 3 months, and it’s advisable to follow the suggested program, including diet, daily self-care, and herbal supplements, in order for your program intentions to move more deeply into your body and consciousness. Slipping back into old habits can be the cause of recurrence of symptoms, according to the law of cause and effect.

Any liquid herbal supplements carried home in your packed luggage must be thoroughly wrapped and well-sealed. A Certificate of Permission to Carry Medicines can be issued by Vaidyagrama for your travel home, along with your Summary of Admission, Treatment and Discharge details. No herbal supplements may be carried home for commercial use. Herbal supplements for personal use are generally not subject to customs levies and are fully legal in Canada. For non-Canadians, please verify with your customs broker.
